My Journey

I am a recent graduate from Eastern Connecticut State University with a degree in Biology. Before I started at Eastern, I attended community college and earned my Associate of Science. It was a way to save money, so that I could go to school and follow my dreams. My passion for nature has been overwhelming since I was a child. Always curious, asking questions like a true scientist. In middle school, I was interested in engineering and creating inventions to help our future. But with that came a desire to lead and create a club that would allow other students to do the same. I taught a club till the middle of high school to invent with the community with my mentor. During high school, I took a three-year science research course through SUNY. This fueled my passion and guided me into the research I continue to pursue to this day. Which is shark research!

Through all of my experiences, which I am beyond grateful for each day, I realize that you learn, adapt, and specialize the further you get into this career. When I reflect on the study of life and my deep passion for it, I realize it's a calling characterized by strength and resilience over time. It's a community where you find a home in your work, embodying the love you feel for a particular practice or species. Finding my community through internships like the Block Island Maritime Institute helped me get to where I am today and connected me with important projects and people working to help the climate, conduct research, and educate others.

During all of these years, of independent research, internships, and affiliations. I have also had a strong interest in science communication, the blend of art and science, and storytelling to connect with others and communities about environmental issues. This passion has allowed me to gain confidence in presenting and to want to learn and grow so I can then teach others. I write and illustrate books and present research at conferences. My hope is to help inspire others who want to become scientists, artists, and storytellers. That no matter where you come from, if you are first-generation, you can still make it to where you are today.
